Growing up on the farm, we watched the city lights slowly creep over the horizon for years until they were finally bright enough to fade out the stars.

Since then, life has moved fast…

I’ve won some, lost some, broke even most of the time. I’ve laughed, cried and everything in between.

There have been battles I forgot why I fought in the first place, and others that stick in my mind like super glue.

All that’s to say nothing ever stays the same.

There’s always another peak to climb… Another river to cross.

It’s only when I pause to look back at just how far I’ve come that I see my children there in the distance, just like those lights coming over the horizon…

The future is theirs.

The old farm now sits beneath a subdivision, with a strip mall and “big box” stores standing in the what used to be the north field.

It’s not “good” or “bad.” It just… is.

There’s no going back. Only a reminder to cherish every moment we’re given.
